Some Chapters in Life are Just Bitter.
Those Chapters Do NOT Get the Final Word.

What happened was not fair.

'Round here, we pick up our pens, and we write back.

Hi, I'm Lizzy!

I write articles and books about the things in life that are sometimes too painful to talk about openly.

From my single-mama heartaches, to life as a Mormon, to my neighbor–the Bloated Bully— you'll laugh, you'll cry, and you might even decide you want to write a book too.

If you've drank from the bitterest of cups that life could ever offer, in Lemons to Lemonade, we'll surround you with love, cry with you, and help you unpack it all — or at least the pieces you're ready to unpack — with your own book.

Lizzy Joy, author and coach holds a lemon and a glass of lemonade.

Writing Your Book

Nothing is off limits in our non-judgmental writing spaces. But three main themes tend to occur over and over again in our discussions, and much of our time is spend working through and writing about these topics:

When Religion Hurts You

put a book with a lemon icon here instead of the same lemonade icon. or maybe better yet put an image of one DP

  • Teaches women to distrust questions, instincts, anger, and experience
  • Uses spiritual authority to demand obedience, silence, and submission
  • Reserves authority for men and assigns women supportive roles
  • Turns purity and worthiness into shame and self-surveillance
  • Protects leaders and reputation before women and children
  • Frames inequality and suffering as God’s will
  • Takes women’s labor and loyalty, then abandons them

When Mothering Breaks You

Years of sacrifice and love – often at your own expense – sometimes result in distance and heartache.

When Marriage Isn't Love

The happily ever after we were promised may never actually be. One in four women experience spousal abuse.

  • Uses fear and humiliation to keep women compliant
  • Makes women question their memory, judgment, and sanity
  • Controls money, work, transportation, housing, or escape
  • Isolates women from support, community, and opportunity
  • Uses religion and vows to excuse abuse
  • Treats women’s bodies, labor, time, and attention as owed
  • Makes women protect his reputation while abusing
